NAIROBI, Kenya- The resignation of Edward Manoah as Vihiga United FC coach has thrown the club into a panic if the reaction of Chairman Kahi Indimuli is anything to go by.
Manoah, who has handled the side since 2014, guided them to the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) after finishing top of the National Super League (NSL) with 80 points, thanks to a hard fought 1-0 win over Ushuru FC on the last day of the season.
However, he stepped down from his position after it emerged that the Vihiga County Government were not keen to fulfil their promise of extending his contract ahead of the 2018 season.
Speaking to SportPesa News, Indimuli revealed that he was surprised by Manoah’s decision, who until yesterday showed no signs of leaving the club.
“We had a lengthy chat last night (Thursday) with regards to a contract extension for players and possible signings. There was no problem with the coach from our end. He never complained about anything, that is why this is shocking,” Indimuli stated.
Efforts by Indimuli to reach Manoah over his shock decision proved futile but he remains adamant that Manoah will resume duties.
“Before I spoke to you, I was in the process of making calls on the same issue. I have tried to send coach Manoah a text message but I have not received a response,” said Indimuli.
“As far as I am concerned, he remains our coach,” he added.
It remains to be seen whether Bernard Ochieng’, one of the top defenders at Vihiga United, will follow Manoah out of the club having been linked with a move to Tusker FC and record SPL champions Gor Mahia FC.
