NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenyan athletics fraternity was dealt a cruel blow on Tuesday when Rio 2016 Olympics champion, Jemimah Jelagat Sumgong, was slapped with a four-year ban by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya for rEPO use.
Sumgong, who made history as the first Kenyan female to win the Olympics marathon title, sought a reduced ban arguing she was injected with the banned performance booster at Kenyatta National Hospital, a defence that was dismissed by the Sports Disputes Tribunal in their ruling. Elsewhere, Boxing Association of Kenya also announced on Tuesday only fighters who feature in the SportPesa National Boxing League will be considered for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Across the borders, former Manchester United FC, Everton FC and Sunderland FC manager, David Moyes was appointed West Ham United FC boss while Liverpool FC-bound Naby Keita received a hefty fine for possessing a fake driving licence.
