Thierry Henry praises ‘outstanding’ Arsenal star Santi Cazorla to SkySports.

One Arsenal player in particular impressed the watching Thierry Henry during Arsenal’s win at Manchester City, who was doing his first Premier League punditry gig for SkySports.

The former French international singled out Spanish maestro Santi Cazorla, who scored a first half penalty and set up a goal for Olivier Giroud.

Henry described Cazorla’s performance as outstanding, and rightly so with the former Malaga man impressive throughout, with Opta powered statistical website whoscored.com awarding his performance a 10/10.

Henry told SkySports: “He controlled that midfield. To come and play the way he did here at the Etihad Stadium was outstanding.

“What a player. I said before the game that people were focusing on Sanchez but at the moment, Cazorla is the guy that makes the team tick. Sanchez didn’t have a great game today, but they won 2-0.”

Cazorla managed 10 successful dribbles; only four players in the Premier League have reached double figures in a single game this season – and three have been from Arsenal.

Position Team Match Won Contest Mins Played
Rémy Cabella MF Newcastle Chelsea vs Newcastle 12 90
Alexis Sánchez FW Arsenal Arsenal vs QPR 11 90
Santiago Cazorla MF Arsenal Man City vs Arsenal 10 90
Jack Wilshere MF Arsenal Arsenal vs Man City 10 90

Cazorla shone in a central attacking role, while record signing Mesut Ozil remained an unused substitute as he continues his comeback from injury.

Arsenal did not miss him, but the sight of the German in reserve when Arsenal win so convincingly as this shows the power of their squad.

Arsene Wenger must be careful not to diminish the impact of Cazorla when he brings Ozil back into the side, but if he both get them playing at a high level, particularly in the Champions League, there is a chance of the Gunners making a real success of this season still.

What did you make of Cazorla’s performance?
