Swansea City have announced the signing of Argentina international defender Federico Fernandez from Napoli.
Reports of the Welsh club’s interest in the defender came to the fore last week and Swansea took decisive steps this week to complete the deal. The former Estudiantes defender completed his medical at Swansea on Monday and penned a four-year deal with the club earlier today. Fernandez made 64 appearances for the Naples-based club and played a key role in the club winning the Italian cup last season. He also made four appearances in Argentina’s World Cup campaign which eventually ended in defeat against Germany in the final. Fernandez started his career with Estudiantes before moving to Napoli in 2011. He also spent time on loan at Spanish outfit Getafe.
