MILAN, Italy- Since announcing he was leaving the San Siro, angry AC Milan fans have poured nothing but anger on teenage keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Besides being subjected to death threats along his family, the 18 year-old Donnarumma saw wads of fake money thrown at his goal as Italy beat Denmark 2-0 in their Under 21 European Championships opener.
The rough treatment has forced super agent Mino Raiola to come out and speak against the ‘hostile and violent’ treatment his client has received.
“He was ready to sign a new contract, there were no doubts in his mind. They forced us to abandon the negotiations because of the environment created around him.
“I take the responsibility. They forced us. It was Milan that lost Donnarumma. He said to me, “honestly Mino, I don’t feel it is right to carry on negotiations when these people are insulting and threatening me and my family,” Raiola told Sky Italia.
The man who also represents Manchester United FC star Paul Pogba and last season’s top scorer at Old Trafford Zlatan Ibrahimovic then slammed Milan fans who had turned against the man tipped to succeed Gialuigi Buffon as Italy number one.
“The situation had become too violent and hostile, so there was no way out. We were threatened. Donnarumma’s family was threatened, both with not playing anymore and threatened with death. You can’t keep a player by threatening him,” Raiola charged in a report published by UK’s DailyMail on Monday.
Donnarumma has been linked with a switch to United should they lose David de Gea to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
