NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya Shujaa are out for a roaring start at Cape Town 7s on Saturday against France when the second leg of the 2017/18 HSBC World Sevens Series gets underway in South Africa.

Shujaa had an appalling record against Canada before they shocked them to set the stage for their qualification to the Main Cup quarters in the Middle East, eventually finishing seventh on 10 points.

Head coach Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu and his charges will take on the French, who have won four of their seven previous meetings starting at 1:57pm (+3GMT) Kenyan time seeking another flying start.

Just like last week, Series champions and Dubai 7s winners, South Africa, are Shujaa’s biggest stumbling block in Pool A, with the Blitzboks having breezed past Kenya.

Surrender initiative

Shujaa will be keen not to surrender the initiative having scored first in all their previous defeats against the French.

“We have the potential to close games early and we can achieve this by working on our ball handling and execution diligently to record performances that we can build our momentum on,” Simiyu said ahead of the Cape Town assignment.

Shujaa will then take on Russia who are propping the World Series rankings after Dubai at 4:48pm before their titanic clash against the hosts.

Shujaa have a better record over Russia, having prevailed in five out of seven meetings although the latter came on top 7-15 in their last clash at the Paris 7s last season.

Last season, Kenya finished second in Pool B of Cape Town 7s behind Fiji with France and Japan propping the pool.
