Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Tusker FC have been handed a Kshs 100,000 fine by the KPL management following the team’s deputy coach Leonard Odipo’s post match comments after their match with KPL champions Gor Mahia on Sunday 14 September.
The match ended in a 1 – 1 draw with Gor Mahia scoring through a penalty after Jockins Atudo was adjudged to have fouled Dan Sserunkuma in the box and Tusker fought hard to equalize late on through Andy Tololwa but Tusker felt the referee, Sylvester Kirwa favoured Gor Mahia.
Odipo, in his post match interview, said ‘the winner of the league has already been determined by powers that be’ to mean Gor Mahia was being favored to win the league and the KPL took a dim view of the comment, invoking an earlier directive that attacks on it will attract a Kshs 100,000 fine, payable within a week of notification.
“We bring to your attention that in the post-match interview of the Tusker vs Gor Mahia match played on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Kasarani you made a derogatory statement and public attack on KPL in your quote ‘The winner of the league has already been determined by powers that be’”, a KPL statement on the official portal, quoting CEO Jack Oguda stated.
It may get even worse for the coach as the KPL has directed him to show cause, within a week, why his case should not be forwarded to the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) for further punishment.
Another key contention in the game at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani, was a second half tackle on Tusker FC midfielder Khalid Aucho by Collins Okoth that the Brewers felt warranted a red card but the referee only issues a yellow card.
