NAIROBI, Kenya- After registering a crucial 1-0 win over Posta Rangers FC over the weekend, Ezekiel Otuoma is confident that Western Stima FC will dodge the dreaded relegation bullet and remain in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL).
Otuoma, who joined the powermen in January from Ulinzi Stars FC, scored the solitary goal late on to ensure his side picked maximum points to keep their dream of retaining their SPL status alive.
“The fighting spirit we showcased against Posta showed we still have something to offer in the top league. It is unfortunate we find ourselves in this situation,” Otuoma told SportPesa News.
Ranked 17th with 35 points, Stima need to beat Chemelil Sugar FC by a healthy margin to be assured of safety and hope that other final day results go in their favour.
Otuoma is banking on that mathematical chance as they gear up for the must win match against the sugar millers who held them to a barren draw in the first leg.
“I think Thika United FC, Zoo Kericho FC and even Mathare United FC are not yet safe. That gives us the hope to keep fighting. We play Chemelil this weekend. That is a must-win match,” added Otuoma.
The match that could shape Stima’s destiny ahead of their weekend fixture is the midweek tie pitting Zoo against Thika United at the Kericho Green stadium on Wednesday . Zoo is on 37 points, two ahead of the Brookside-sponsored side.
A win for Thika will leave Stima with a less realistic chance of avoiding the chop given that they have an inferior goal difference.
