NAIROBI, Kenya- Tusker FC could start the new season without one of their new signings after Matthew Odongo picked up a nasty injury in their 4-1 win over Nairobi Stima FC in a preseason friendly match played at the Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday.
Odongo, formerly with Kariobangi Sharks FC, rejoined the Brewers for his second stint at the club after penning a two-year deal at the club.
He started alongside another new arrival Timothy Otieno in attack but he was hauled off after suffering an ankle injury.
Lloyd Wahome opened the scoring in the early exchanges before Ugandan Robert Achema doubled the hosts’ lead before the break.
Otieno then netted the third shortly after the restart before Paul Odhiambo completed the rout just before Tusker suffered Odongo’s setback.
“That was the only downside in a match we used to gauge the endurance of our players,” assistant coach Francis Baraza stated after the match.
“It was a bad tackle on Odongo. We shall wait for the doctor’s report before telling how long he will be out,” he added.
Baraza, who is planning for another Friendly match on Saturday and Wednesday next week, also lauded the new signings terming them as players who have the hunger to learn and perform.
“Yes, they are young, but these are players I have worked with and I understand them, most of them have been playing top flight football for the past couple of seasons,” Baraza added.
“Again, they were pillars of their respective teams. Replacing players who had won the league will motivate the new arrivals to work harder,” he offered.
New head coach Sam Timbe and the new signings are expected to be unveiled on Monday.
