NAIROBI, Kenya- World 5000m champion Hellen Obiri once again showed her prowess by successfully defending her title in Friday’s Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country women’s 10km race held at the Moi Airbase.
As expected, the runner from Laikipia Airbase, who is hoping to represent Kenya at the forthcoming world Indoor championships dazzled in the 37th edition of the championships, and she did exactly that.
“As part of preparations for a busy schedule ahead, I am happy to win this race and make it a hat-trick of titles. I was forced to work hard for this victory,” said Obiri who clocked 33:32.6 ahead of World Half-Marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei who timed 33:38.4.
“Jepkosgei was very strong through the laps, giving me a very tough challenge,” Obiri who is looking forward to April’s Commonwealth Games in Australia offered.
The championships brought together 12 teams from the defense forces which include, Nairobi, Moi Air Base, Mtongwe, Thika, Kahawa and Lanet, Nanyuki, Marsabit, Isiolo, Gilgil, Laikipia and Embakasi Air Base.
