Mwalala Sails Off To Winning Bandari Start, Zoo Rise

MOMBASA, Kenya- Bernard Mwalala enjoyed a dream debut with Bandari FC when he led his side to a 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz FC in a SportPesa Premier League (SPL) encounter at Mbaraki Stadium, Mombasa.

The other Saturday SPL match-up produced another home victory as Zoo Kericho FC prevailed 1-0 over Chemelil Sugar FC in the battle of the sides hoping to avoid relegation.

Mwalala who quit Nzoia Sugar FC for the dockers saw his side rise to third on 35 points from 22 games, 14 adrift of champions and runaway leaders, Gor Mahia FC who are away in Tanzania for the 2018 Cecafa Kagame Cup.

Zoo improved to 13th on 24, four above the SPL/National Super League play-off slot as their visitors remained a place below on 21. Homeboyz (31) are holding on to seventh ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.

Kipkurui strikes

Darius Msagha conjured the winner at Mbaraki as half-time approached when a Wycliffe Ochomo header was repelled before the ball fell to his teammate to tuck in and hand Homeboyz head coach Paul Nkata defeat on his return to his former employers.

At Kericho Green Stadium, star forward, Nicholas Kipkurui proved to be the difference as Zoo edged up towards safety after a rocky start to their second SPL season.

Tusker FC, the 2016 SPL winners entertain fast-rising Nakumatt FC while AFC Leopards SC welcome Sony Sugar FC keen on bouncing back to the top three.

The tasty encounter between 2010 titleholders, Ulinzi Stars FC and Kariobangi Sharks FC at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru as well as Wazito FC welcoming fellow SPL fist-timers Vihiga United FC round off round 22 action.
