NAIROBI, Kenya- Mombasa Sports Club (MSC) are battling to return to the men’s Kenya Hockey Union Premier League next season after two years out.
MSC did not play in any league last season after being relegated to the second tier from the Premier league in 2015 alongside fellow Mombasa-based side Mvita XI Club after finishing bottom of the log.
“We failed to honour the league last season for varied reasons. During that time, we meditated and assessed ourselves and we are now ready for promotion.
“We also managed to make quality signings in readiness for the season,” club coach Collins Wanyonyi asserted.
MSC remained top of the National League ‘A’ despite going down 0-1 to Gorilla on Sunday after drawing 2-2 with Park Road Tigers at the City Park Stadium the day before during their trip to Nairobi.
Kevin Omulama and Captain Evanson Alulu gave MSC a 2-0 lead in the 45th and 56th minutes against Park Road before they allowed the home time to strike back through an Evans Murigi brace.
On Sunday Jackson Keya capitalised on a defensive lapse to convert a penalty corner to hand Gorilla the victory.
MSC are above Mvita on goal difference at the summit with both teams locked on 15 points.
Elsewhere, Amira Sailors beat MSC 3-1 in the KHU’s Women’s Premier league to move up to third on 17 points.
