Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has thanked the fans for their support of him during 2014 while also declaring his delight at getting back on the pitch on Sunday after injury.
Shaw, 19, signed for Man United in the summer for around £33 million after impressing in the Premier League for Southampton over the past couple of seasons. He was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the tail end of last season but Jose Mourinho veered away from his signature due to the hefty price-tag, allowing Louis van Gaal to march in and seal the transfer.
It marked a huge summer for the teenager, who backed up his first cap for England last season by making Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad and even making an appearance in the goalless draw to Costa Rica as the Three Lions were knocked out at the group stages.
His time at Man Utd has been filled with injuries, though, and he only just returned from his most recent one – an ankle problem – on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur. The injury was first picked up against Arsenal in November when the Red Devils won 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium but his return is now a huge plus for United who are currently unbeaten in their last nine matches.
