Kenyan Premier League Limited has moved to crack the whip on coaches, who criticize referees for poor officiating. According to one of the affected coaches, who preferred not to be named, they are being fined Sh20, 000 every time they criticize a referee.
“We are now being fined every time we raise issues about poor officiating. I have been fined but this is not the way to deal with this issue,” the coach told Goal on Monday.
There has been wide spread criticism over poor officiating in the league with several coaches complaining about the vice. Notable case was when Ulinzi Stars coach Robert Matano took issue with referee George Mwai’s officiating during their league match against Gor Mahia at City Stadium.
An incensed Matano labeled Mwai ‘a bogus referee, who doesn’t deserve to officiate in the league’ after the match that saw K’Ogalo win 2-0. Bandari coach Twahir Muhiddin has also been on the front line condemning referees for poor officiating.
