The match has now been cancelled by Iran, who termed Kenya’s request as odd considering their low ranking in Fifa.
According to Iran Football Federation President Ali Kaffashian, the Kenyans had requested to be paid $50,000 in addition to their travel expenses being met.
“Football Kenya Federation has asked $50,000 in addition to travel expenses and that is not a usual request for a team ranked 116 in Fifa ranking,” the official was quoted by Tehran Times.
The newspaper further said Iran will look for a new African opponent to play against on the same date with Zimbabwe being considered.
Iran is preparing itself for 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The Carlos Quieroz team has been pitted against United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Bahrain in Group C of the tournament which will be held in Australia from January 9 to 31.
