LIVERPOOL, United Kingdom- Everton FC will welcome Kenyan record league winners Gor Mahia FC to Goodison Park following their victory in the SportPesa Super Cup final on Sunday.
In a closely contested final at the Afraha Stadium in Kenya, Gor Mahia earned the right to face the Blues as they emerged victorious from the eight-team tournament and defended their SportPesa Super Cup title after defeating Simba SC from Tanzania 2-0 in the competition finale.
The goals were scored by the tournament’s top scorer, Meddie Kagere and his fellow Rwandese countryman Jacques Tuyisenge as Gor finished the tournament without conceding a single goal.
The 16-time SportPesa Premier League (SPL) winners qualified for the finals of the Super Cup after a 2-0 semi-final victory over another Tanzanian side, Singida United FC. Earlier they had whitewashed Zanzibar champions Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) 3-0 in the quarters.
A date and time for the fixture at Goodison Park is yet to be confirmed but the clash is a repeat of when the Blues took on the Kenyan Premier League Champions in July 2017 in Tanzania.
The Toffees travelled to East Africa last year to face the inaugural SportPesa Super Cup winners in a fixture that saw Everton overcome Gor Mahia 2-1, courtesy of goals from Wayne Rooney and Kieran Dowell.
The Gor Mahia goal was scored by Tuyisenge who will be hoping to add to his tally against Everton when the two teams lock horns again this summer.
Full fixture and ticketing details for the visit of Gor Mahia will be released in due course.
