The remainder of the day’s fixtures threw up victories for Stoke and Everton whileWest Brom ended a run of three consecutive defeats to down Alan Pardew’s in form Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Away from the Premier League Arsenal ensured they will be competing in the FA Cup final for a second consecutive season with victory over Reading at Wembley.
Champions Manchester City returned to winning ways as they piled more misery on West Ham manager Sam Allardyce with a 2-0 win over the Hammers at the Etihad.
In the day’s late game Tottenham’s Harry Kane struck his 20th Premier League goal of the season – his 30th in all competitions – to seal a 3-1 win over Newcastle at St James’ Park.
