Can Liverpool satisfy Raheem Sterling’s ambitions?

After the loss of Luis Suarez this summer, Raheem Sterling has come to the forefront as a hugely important player for Liverpool. His performances have been impressive in a relatively below par start for the club this season, and reports suggest that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain would be keen on prising him away from Anfield.

Liverpool are looking to hand Sterling a new long-term deal such as the one they recently agreed with Daniel Sturridge. Both players are vital for the club if they are to continue progressing following last season’s campaign. The departure of Suarez has clearly seen them stutter somewhat and the influx of signings have yet to completely gel.

Sterling and Sturridge are the future of England and Liverpool, and there is much more to come from Sterling who despite only being 19, looks comfortable in all competitions for club and country. The temptation of Real Madrid will be hard to resist for many players, but it wouldn’t necessarily be the right move for Raheem.

One only has to look at Michael Owen whose career rapidly declined following a move from Liverpool to Real Madrid. Admittedly injuries played a big part in that, but he moved to Real Madrid at the peak of his career and was not granted enough game time. He only lasted one season in Spain starting just 15 games, but he did manage to score 18 goals overall in the spell.

Whilst Sterling is clearly a talented player he would not command a place in Madrid’s current team of superstars and it would hinder his progress. He is one of the first name’s on Brendan Rodgers’ teamsheet and can become an all-time great for Liverpool, especially if they can go one better than last season’s second place finish.

Sterling can reach the very upper echelons in this game, but can Liverpool help him get there? Last season caught many by surprise but Liverpool were showing they can be major contenders once more. We are yet to see if they can continue advancing this season but right now Sterling should stay put. A new era is underway at the club, and he is a prominent figure in that.

Right now there is no better place for Sterling to be, and there is huge potential for him to help Liverpool rediscover a golden period once more.
