Kenya’s Deputy President William Samoei Ruto has ordered Sports Minister Hasan Wario to crack the whip on Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
He said it will not be business as usual when the footballing standards plummet in the world’s most popular sport in the country.
“Enough is enough we cannot take it no more, as a government we cannot sit back and watch as football is being run down under our watch,” he said.
He ordered Wario to take the necessary steps to remedy the situation before it is too late saying he was taking the steps following cries from Kenyans who were complaining about football in the country.
Speaking during the official opening of astro turf constructed Camp Toyoyo Stadium in Nairobi’s Jericho estate, Ruto said it was a pity that low ranked nations can make a meal out of Kenya and therefore action needs to be taken.
He said other sports were doing Kenya proud, using an example of Kenya’s national women volleyball team for their performance in the Grand Prix and the national athletics junior team in the just concluded World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia where Kenya finished second.
Ruto said the government will support the hosting of the next Word Youth Athletics Championships to staged in Kenya in 2017.
“As the Jubilee government our main agenda is to empower the youth in which they dominate in participating in sports and that’s why we shall ensure adequate sporting facilities are there and sober management of sporting federations,” he said.
He ordered all sporting federations to comply with the Sports Act 2013, failure to which the government will use its machinery to ensure that they comply.
