Mathare United head coach Francis Kimanzi has added his voice to the reports that a good number of players in the club’s youth team will be promoted as the senior team gears for the 2017 Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) season.
The coach was a key figure in the junior team’s two wins in the August and December KPL U20 editions and he says after the hard work the youngsters put in during the tournaments, the ultimate reward for them is to help them grow by getting them make the next step.
Already, two players from the youth team have had first team football – Musa Oundo and Lennox Ogutu – and the coach, without pointing out any particular players, hinted at promoting a few.
“They did well and their performance is definitely a reflection of the hard work put in to prepare them for these things. Now the best reward they can get is to be promoted to the senior team because that is the only way they can be helped to grow as well.
“We will be having a number in the senior team this year as we continue with the monitoring,” he assured.
