Ulinzi Stars FC forward John Makwatta is the 2016 Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) goldenboot winner after recording a total of 15 goals.
Makwatta netted a brace as his side thrashed Bandari 4-2 on Saturday 19 November to seal the award, as well as help his team complete the season ranked third.
Behind him is Muhoroni Youth’s Wycliffe Ochomo, with 15 goals and AFC Leopards Kepha Aswani, who netted 11 goals before he was dismissed by the club for indiscipline.
Congratulating Makwatta, Ulinzi’s head coach Benjamin Nyangweso said the player deserved the award, as he had worked hard for the goals.
“This was by no means a lucky streak. He has been training hard and playing well in matches. His commitment to scoring goals has been clear in matches and we are very proud of him. As a team we are really proud of this achievement,” said Nyangweso.
Makwata, who was the best player in the Sportpesa Premier League in April 2016, joined Ulinzi in October 2013, first undergoing seven months military training before getting back to the team.
