Kenya national football team, Harambee Stars held Uganda to a barren draw in an international friendly match played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium Namboole on Tuesday evening.
The hosts enjoyed most of the possession but failed to make it count in the end settled for a goal-less draw in the clash played in a near empty Stadium.
The home-side created a lot of chances in the first half. David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng cleared a dangerous Godfrey Walusimbi cross as early as the first minute. In the 20th minute Moses Oloya has a shot blocked by David Owino after being put through by Yunus Sentamu. Skipper Geoffrey Massa’s free-kick from the edge of the area also missed the target.
Kenya’s real chance of the first half came in the closing stages of the first half from a set piece but Victor Wanyama’s attempt missed the target by inches.
The second half was equally dominated by Cranes but once again failed to make their possession count. Luwagga Kizito, Moses Oloya and Farouk Miya all came close to breaking the deadlock early the second half but fluffed while in prime positions.
Erick Johanna squandered Kenya’s best chance at the hour mark, shooting out after beating Uganda keeper. Ayub Timbe nearly won it for Kenya in stoppage time but Uganda keeper Jamal Magoola did well to deny the Lierse SK man.
Both teams now shift focus to their weekend 2017 AFCON qualifiers. Kenya will play Zambia while Uganda who have all but qualified for the biannual tourney take on Comoros Islands.
