The 5th circuit of the 64th edition of the Kenya National Rally Championship took place on 23rd July, 2016, in Voi.
The Sportpesa Rally Team, driver Leonardo Varese and navigator Kigondu Karieithi, were leading in the 2-Wheel Drive category with 68 points.
However, the four time champions had to pull out of the race after a drive shaft and gear box failure in the rough and dusty terrain of Wundanyi.
This is the first time in 10 rallies that Leonardo and Kigondu have had a retirement, something that not many people can brag about.
Other rally drivers that pulled out of the race early include Izhar Mirza due to electrical gremlins,Eric Njogu because of mechanical problems. Edward Maina retired in first service at Mwatate with a leaking gearbox.
Over 10 vehicles did not make to the finish line out of 35 vehicles that were flagged off.
The results of the winners are yet to be released.
