The Registrar of Sports is set to issue five hundred certificates to all sports organization in the country following an order from Sports and Disputes Tribunal
that all sports organization who have made an application before the registrar be given interim certificate on the basis of meeting the requirements.
Speaking in Eldoret while meeting heads of all sporting organizations in three Counties of North Rift- Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet- registrar of Sports Rose Wasike said she has 500 certificates to be issued on interim basis following the order by the tribunal.
“After we are through with his sensitization programme in the region, I will be going to Nairobi to issue over 500 interim certificates to all sports organizations who had transited. As par now, I have fully registered sixteen sports organizations in the country,” said Wasike.
She added that she will be issuing interim certificates to all sports organizations that have made applications before her office.
“As I go back to Nairobi I will develop interim certificates to all organizations that have made applications before my office then after that, when the rules and regulations are out, I will start canceling all certificates to those who have not met the conditions,” said the lawyer.
But she raised a serious matter on some gaps in the Sports Act saying there are so many challenges especially in the Act that has not defined what is a sports organization in the country.
“Sports organizations have been there for long time up to now. But our own Sports Act does not explain what is a sports organization, which is a gap and according to me, a sports organization is that that has been registered under the Sports Act as required. And if you are not registered by registrar of sports, then you are not a sports organization same for those who have transited under section 50 and 49 of the Act. The law has no exception on any sports organization and if there is anything going around that we may lock other organizations from registration, that is wrong as the registrar has not been given any power to restrain any organization from registration by Sports Act,” lamented Wasike.
