North Rift region will have a representative at next year’s Kenya Volley league from Uasin Gishu County for the first time.
Having the best players in all national league teams from the region, North Rift has not had a team that plays top flight volleyball in the country but come next year, they will be competing courtesy of the County’s team.
The team will comprise players from all corners of the lager Uasin Gishu County where players were selected from thirty teams that competed in a three day tournament. The tournament was held to pick a team to play both at national tournaments and the volleyball league.
“These young boys will be eligible to play at national level since their volleyball skills are top class and this tournament has presented the best solution for youth employment and playing at the national league and national tournament, will be exposing their talents that has been idling in villagers,” said deputy sports organizing secretary Stephen Radido.
He added that many players have come from the region and played at both national and international class citing Rwandan national coach Paul Bitok, Lydia Maiyo, Mercy Moim among others who were discovered in such like tournaments.
“Such events have produced superlative players who have been very instrumental in volleyball progress,” added Radido.
