Borussia Dortmund already confirmed Manchester United made an improved offer for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Manchester United are confident of completing deals in signing Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the coming days. The star duo have been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and are now closing on making a switch to England.
Ibrahimovic is a free agent after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain will officially expire on 30 June, while the Armenian international has one year left on his contract at the Signal Iduna Park. The duo are managed by Mino Raiola and the agent earlier admitted wanting both his clients to join the Red Devils.
According to The Telegraph, the 20-time English champions want to secure the deals for Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan before they unveil Jose Mourinho to the media next week.
The Portuguese tactician was announced as their new manager in May after he replaced Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager was shown the door just days after he guided the Red Devils to the FA Cup triumph.
Ibrahimovic announced his retirement from international football after Sweden’s disappointing Euro 2016 campaign. He is set to undergo his medical this week and will sign a one-year deal, with an option to further extend it by a year. The former Swedish international is likely to be confirmed as United signing
Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan’s move to United is also set to be through before the weekend. Thomas Tuchel will start Dortmund’s pre-season preparations on 4 July and the Bundesliga club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke looks to find a solution before this weekend after United made an improved offer.
“Manchester have made a much improved offer. In situations like this, there are always a lot of different things to consider and in the end at one point we have to make a decision,” Watzke told German newspaper Der Westen.
“And as we were back in training on Monday, we will decide at the weekend. I have contacted the relative people and we will weigh things up at the weekend. And then the board will make the decision, definitely at the weekend.”
