Van Gaal tips Giggs as possible successor.

The Dutchman, who arrived last summer after leading the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup, has a contract until 2017. That deal is unlikely to be renewed, with van Gaal having previously stated that Man Utd would be his final managerial post of an illustrious career.

Giggs assumed the role of assistant after retiring as a player in 2014 and having taken charge of the club’s final four games of last season following the sacking of David Moyes.

He gained seven points out of a possible 12 in those matches, but was given huge backing by an overwhelming majority of supporters.

The Welshman is Man Utd’s highest ever appearance maker by some distance and is also the most decorated player in the history of the English game, and van Gaal believes that he would be the natural choice to become the next manager. He said: “I expect that he [Giggs] will be the next manager after I am gone. Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well.”
